Pick: Sociedad (+0.5) Result: Pending Stake: 10/10 Odds: 1.90

IMO Espanyol are overrated here. Since the end of January they have lost four games in a row. They are making silly mistakes at the back, while the offense has been stone cold. Espanyol's defensive woes are due to injuries of some players and the departure of others. Real Sociedad are in good form lately. They've won 4 of their last 6 matches. In that span they lost to Real Madrid and Villareal (both away) but that's not the end of the world. I believe Sociedad have what it takes to get at least a point today and the odds are clearly not set right IMO. The value is definitely on the away side.

Bayern Munich are comming off a fantastic win at Inter Milan. Maybe not as a display, because Inter had many chances to win the game, but certainly as a result. Now Bayern must be fired up for this one. Their chances to defend the title are very slim, but they can't just give up. With a win over the most likely future champions Bayern will save some pride at least. Robben is in good shape, Ribery is trying to get there, while Gomez is scroing almost at will. Dortmund's regular goalkeeper will miss out this game and will be replaced by Langerak, who will make his debut today. I think that will be a huge problem for the visitors. Langerak will be under pressure and Bayern have many players who can take good and powerful shots from a long range. I expect goals in this game, but I don't find any value in 1.65-1.70 for over 2.5. If Bayern score early I'm sure they can trash Dortmund.

Pick: Hannover Result: 0:1 Stake: 10/10 Odds: 3.05

Pure value bet in my eyes. Hannover is clearly the better team here. They should be the favourite in this one IMO. They are fighting for european places, while St Pauli is in the middle of the table, and their only goal this season is to stay in the German top flight. Hannover's away record is 5-1-5, not very good, but not bad either, plus St. Pauli is not one of the best home teams either with their 4-3-5. Last time out St. Pauli's three game winning streak came to and end with a 0:2 loss at Dortmund. I don't think they have what it takes to stop Hannover too. I don't get it why the odds on away win are so high, but instead of wondering you should ride the value while you still can.

Everyone thinks Levski will have an easy game against CSKA today, but I don't. OK, maybe the home team is a slight favourite, but the class difference is not so big as the odds suggest. If Garra Dembele is neutralised I don't see where Levski's goals will come from. CSKA had some good results in their friendlies and I think they are in good shape now. OK, they have some players that really suck, but so does every team in Bulgaria. Coach Milen Radukanov is doing well in charge of the Armymen. CSKA is expected to play in a defensive-minded 4-2-3-1 formation, with Michelle Platini being the lonely striker up front. I expect a close game today. It could be decided by one goal, but the two teams are pretty evenly matched IMO and neither will want to begin the second half of the season with a loss, so the most probable outcome is a goalless or 1:1 draw. Can't imagine a lot of goals either, since the last 12 encounters between the sides have ended under 2.5. If the odds rise up to ~5.00 for an away win they it might be worth taking a shot with CSKA, but for now the best bet here is the draw.

A tricky game this one. Struggling Wigan host league leaders Manchester United in a crucial game for both teams. Wigan are in danger of relegation and they need points to get out of the danger zone, while United cannot afford to slip up just before two of their most important trips in England this season. On Tuesday the Red Devils play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a postponed game from round 18. Then, after just four days they visit a rejuvenated Liverpool. Today is the second of four away games on the spin for United. Sir Alex Ferguson said that these four games will set United's course for the rest of the season. Although Manchester must win at Wigan today, I'm sure they'll try to do it with minimum fuss. After all, Wigan is nowhere near the class of Chelsea and Liverpool, and United will need their best players to be fully fit for those games. Actually Wigan is not that bad. They managed to pick up five points in their last three games. The Latics must be fancying their chances against United today, who are on a tight schedule lately. I expect a tight affair at DW Stadium today, but it's difficult to imagine any other outcome than an away win. Man Utd have won all 12 previous encounters between the sides. 1:2 is my call, but we'll see.

I'm pretty sure the odds will drop down below 3.00 before Sunday. These two teams have been producing some high quality games lately. Inter have scored 18 and conceded 10 goals in the last six games and the goals total has gone over 3.5 in five of those matches. The Nerazzurri have been playing extremely well since Rafael Benitez was sacked and Leonardo took over. They have some injury problems like Chivu who is questionable for this game and Julio Cesar who is still out, but that is rather good for my bet. Udinese are doing very well in attack. Last time out they won 4:2 at Genoa, and before that they made a thrilling 4:4 draw with AC Milan at San Siro. Defensively they are not that good. If Udinese could improve on that they'd be top 6 material. Both teams are playing open attacking football, enjoying good form and they have no key players missing this match. I think we are set for a fascinating game of football with goals at both ends of the pitch.

After a very bad start to the season, which ended their hopes and dreams of the title, Schalke picked up and started playing better. They have won 5 of the last 7 games. I believe their ascent up the table will continue. Hamburger have been plagued by injuries nearly all season long. Mathijsen, Petric, Guerrero and Son will miss out this game. These are all key players, so Hamburger will have a very tough game at Veltins Arena. All in all Schalke is in better shape, both physically and mentally, they have less squad concerns and they have the home advantage. I think they have a pretty good chance of winning today. The odds are fine in my opinion.

I can't imagine a low-scoring game here. Both teams need a win and I think they'll go for it. Stuttgart are next to rock bottom. The first half of the season was a total disaster for them. They have quality in the squad though, so I'm sure they will not be relegated. All they need is just a few good wins to get them out of the danger zone. In fact, they are doing well in attack. Only two teams have scored more goals than them this season. It's the defence that's dragging them down. They ought to improve in that area, but that won't happen suddenly. Stuttgart have scored 32 goals and conceded 35 goals in 17 games. That's an average of nearly 4 goals per game. Last time out they lost 3:5 to Bayern Munich at home. It was a hell of a game and I expect a similar match today. Mainz 05 are a really good team this season. They have fallen 13 points behind Dortmund in the title race, but they are still second in the standings. That spot will be fiercely contested until the end of the season, so if Mainz want to stay there, they'll have to keep winning constantly.

Pick: West Ham Result: Stake: 7/10 Odds: 3.62

West Ham achieved a surprising and rare win on the road against Fulham. It was their first victory away from home in over 16 months. Now there is optimism that they have finally turned the corner. The owners of West Ham have faith in Avram Grant and that's good. The festive games are critical for the Hammers' survival and Grant's position, therefore they must take them very seriously and try to nail another crucial win, this time in front of their home fans. Everton are never easy to beat, but they are not very far away from the relegation zone themselves. The toffies managed to steal three points from Manchester City last time out. That was their first victory in 8 games. They have had a lot of successful outings against West Ham in recent years, but I think this time West Ham will be more eager to win, and that is usually the key to winning in matches between teams from the bottom of the table.

It's all looking good for Manchester United. Top of the league, winning, scoring lots of goals, creating many chances, playing really nice football, and after 17 rounds they are the only undefeated team in the Premier League. In their last match of 2010 the red devils face Birmingham at St Andrews. It's going to be really hard for United to keep their winning streak alive. St Andrews is a tough place to win at. Everton was the only team to breach Birmingham's fortress this season. Despite of that Birmingham are just above the relegation zone. Every point is vital for them and I believe they'll give Man United a hell of a game. Manchester have won four in a row now, but all these games were at Old Trafford. On the road, they are just 1-6-0 this season. They surely must start winning away from home if they are to win the Premier League title. The last mutual meeting was in early January and it ended in a 1:1 draw. Birmingham are not in a good shape now, so I believe United will be just too much for them at this point. The game will start at 20:00 local time, which is nice for my bet, because it's going to be colder than usual and it could be a much closer game than expected. Anyway, I think the most likely outcome of this clash is a one-goal victory for Manchester.

It's been more than two years since Arsenal beat Chelsea for the last time. Since then, the two teams have met five times, with Chelsea winning all encounters. Now is the perfect moment for the gunners to end their negative streak against Chelsea. These are difficult times for the blues. Rumours said that Ancelotti wanted to resign, but his resignation was not accepted, though his assistant left. The atmosphere surrounding Chelsea is clearly not good and that is affecting their play in a very bad way. They are winless in five games now. We are not used to seeing Chelsea slumping for so long in the Abramovich era. The absences of Frank Lampard and John Terry are also contributing to Chelsea's poor performance of late. Lampard is set to return for this clash, but it's obvious that he won't be anywhere near fully fit. Arsenal have what it takes to win this match. Arsen Wenger's men have won only one game against a top six team this season, so if they want to stay close to United they have to start winning big derbies. Usually I say that anything is possible in this kind of a game, but I believe Chelsea's woes will continue and Arsenal will get back on track after the 0:1 defeat at Old Trafford.
